New classes at Bristol folk House - Summer Term

Felt making - Learn the basics of felt making, or improve your skills, we will be begin in 2D and work upto 3D shapes and objects.
Free machine embroidery - learn to use a sewing machine to draw, combine this with applique and create wonderful designs for your own projects
Printmaking - learn a variety of print techniques including lino, press, mono and collagraph prints, build up the techniques over weeks and learn to combine whilst working on your own projects.

New Workshops at my studio

Evening Classes
Thursday 10th March              Get to Grips with your Sewing Machine   6-9pm              £20

Inherited a machine? Recently got a new one? Not quite sure where to start? Bring your machine along and Julie will guide you through the different functions and teach you the basics of machine sewing, including threading the machine, winding the bobbin, sewing straight lines and making button holes. You will even go home with your very own cushion cover.







Thursday 17th March              Sewing for Improvers- Appliqué Purse     6-9pm              £20

Bring along your machine and learn how to put in a zip and try appliqué (adding a design to the surface of the fabric) to make your own unique zipped purse; build upon your basic sewing knowledge.







Thursday 24th March              Knockout Knickers                                      6-9pm              £20

Bring along your machine and try something different.  Use some of the fancier stitches on your machine and try stitching elastic. Come away with a fantastic pair of fancy pants, and the knowledge and skills to produce many more.






NB. All the above workshops require you to bring some materials and sewing machine; a list will be sent with confirmation of your booking. If you do not have access to a machine but are interested in attending, please contact Julie anyway, as a limited amount of machines may be available for your use.

Weekend Workshops
Saturday 5th March                 Felt Making                                                    10am-4pm       £35
Explore the basics of felt making using a variety of wet felt techniques. You will make a selection of beautiful pieces to take home. No experience necessary. Most materials included in course fee.






Saturday 12th March               Skirt in a Day                                                 10am-4pm       £30

Be the envy of your friends and make a simple unique wrap skirt in one day. You will learn how to alter your own pattern to fit and this can be taken away to make more in the future. This is suitable for all levels including beginners. You will need to bring your own sewing machine and fabric, details will be provided. (If you do not have access to a machine but are interested in attending, please contact Julie anyway, as a limited amount of machines may be available for your use.)






Sunday 13th March                 Recycling Fabrics - Accessories                10am-4pm       £30

Ever wondered what to do with those scraps of fabrics or worn out clothes? Bring them along and turn them into stunning accessories. You will learn various textile techniques including fabric bonding, manipulation, and hand-stitch. The techniques can be applied to other fabrics to provide decorative elements to clothing as well. By the end of the day you will have lots of ideas and a selection of wonderful accessories to show off.






Sunday 20th March                 Print Making                                                  10am-4pm       £35

Try a variety of experimental and simple print making techniques. 3 different techniques will be demonstrated throughout the day. You will go home with a variety of prints and the ability to carry on at home. No experience necessary. Materials included in course fee.
